1. To combat 'educational' underachievement prevalent amongst some disadvantaged young people in mainstream education and returnees-to-learn, living and studying in many parts of Bradford.
  2. To help raise attainment levels and perceptions of expectations for the community as a whole; to reflect young peoples' and adult learners' true abilities, unprejudiced by stereotype, misconceptions and personal history.
  3. To expose young people to positive role models and influences, through undergraduate tutors (who have made a conscious choice to be a part of Bradford's community) in order to inspire and motivate them to consider continuing their own education and embrace the idea of life long learning as a facet of their personal development.
  4. To persuade and motivate adults and parents that learning and education is their responsibility and that family learning and family responsibility fosters and instils a proper attitude towards education.
  5. To endeavour to promote the ethos of study support, as a concept around the city and persuade the community, as a collective group of concerned individuals, to look upon supplementary education as an effective, rewarding and pleasurable experience with the purpose of enhancing the life chances of the younger generation.
  6. To recruit undergraduates and postgraduates as mentors to young people and offer an alternative learning environment and method of delivery to that which has constantly proven to fail them. BSSN's tutors are good role models to young people who may be disillusioned about the opportunities that are open to them.
